The Best Places to Work Remotely in Barbados
Last updated: July 2023
With more people remote working, co-working, freelancing and becoming self-employed than ever, I'm highlighting some of the best places to work remotely in Barbados; where the wifi is free and your laptop will always be welcome.
From tropical beach settings to corporate co working spaces, this list might just change your remote working experience all together. As an entrepreneur, blogger and part time digital nomad, I love nothing more than to find a great remote spot to do some work.
With the introduction of the Barbados Welcome Stamp for remote workers, I've updated this list to include some more information. If you're thinking of moving to Barbados, or you're already here on the Stamp, feel free to get in touch with any questions that you may have.
An important reminder when working remotely:
I would like to think that most people don't need reminding, but apparently they do.
Some spots previously listed on here have been removed because they reported that people were sitting there for hours without buying anything, so they didn't want to be listed on here anymore. I have been updating this list continuously since 2016, and I now make sure to ask if an establishment wants to be listed or not.
Please make sure to support all of these businesses when using their space, especially the cafes and restaurants. Make sure to visit during the quieter periods if you're not buying a meal, and always, always buy at least a drink if you're there for an hour or two. Many of these spaces were not intended as co working spaces, so please be respectful.
Don’t be that person who just takes up space and sits there for hours on end. Nobody likes that person.

Artsplash Cafe
Artsplash Cafe is ideal if you're looking for somewhere central to work on the South Coast; it boasts a large, breezy verandah where you can settle down with your laptop and a coffee. You can also sit inside and admire the local art that adorns the walls. The WiFi is good and they also serve healthy food options to keep you fuelled. However, I must warn you that the cafe closes at 4pm during the week and it's really busy with lots of kids on the weekends.
WiFi: Free | Power sockets: A few | Space: Lots of seating available during the day but it is not suggested that you take up a table without buying food | Air-conditioned: No | Location: South Coast
Barbados Cruising Club/Dipper's Bar
Nothing quite says 'Remote work in the tropics' like parking your laptop on a picnic bench on the beach, shaded under palm trees. The Cruising Club is a members beach club, however you can sign yourself in for the day and access all amenities once you buy food and drink. Don't expect peace and quiet, but this is a lively spot to meet new people and sign up for water related activities and events.

A black owned, bustling spot to work! It's actually a cafe, with delicious wraps, waffles, smoothies and Insta worthy shakes. There are always people popping in and out. A great space for smaller meetings and solitary work. Best to make a reservation.

When people envision working remotely in a tropical island, they probably picture something like this beach bar. "Carib" is a bit of a social icon in Barbados, especially for older generations. Sit under the trees, out on the beach or inside on the patio for a beachy, breezy day at the office.

Happy Days Cafe
Happy Days Cafe is a stalwart of "The Gap" for as long as I can remember. This cute cafe offers serves breakfast, brunch and lunch options, all lovingly prepared by the friendly owner, Nick. The neighbourhood chickens may stop in to say hello, and offer a comical respite from working. You can sit on the patio or in the courtyard under the umbrellas. Power sources are limited, so this option may be best suited for a quick meeting or a couple of hours of work over a quick snack before heading to Dover beach across the street.
WiFi: Free | Power: limited | Space: Outdoor | Air-conditioned: No | Location: St.Lawrence Gap, Christ Church
Nhome - Worthing Court
Nhome (pronounced gnome) is a unique concept in Barbados - "all inclusive living and co-working spaces, as well as a community." Worthing Court is a small hotel on the South coast. The co working space is next to a pool which you can also access. It is not air conditioned, but you can access air conditioned meeting rooms if that's more your vibe.
I've only visited the South coast location so far, which is why I'm listing it here. However, there is also a location further north in the island. If you're only interested in working remotely, they offer daily, weekly and monthly co-working packages.
WiFi: Free | Power: A few | Space: Patio vibes | Air-conditioned: Yes and No | Location: Worthing Court, South Coast
Sage Bistro
Wendy knew what she was doing when she curated Sage Bistro; the space is beautiful styled, with various areas to work, have lunch, and sit and chat. It's no secret that Wendy is also a fabulous baker - you HAVE to try her blueberry cake! I'm clearly a fan, but I highly encourage you to consider your next remote work session at Sage.

Senses Marché
One of the most Insta worthy additions to this list! This beautiful little cafe is a bustling lunch spot, with fresh salads, hot foods and even an ice cream bar. Starbucks Haggatt Hall
Though the location is convenient, and there is a second location coming soon. Downsides: There isn't a lot of seating available, and university students usually park themselves at one of the tables for hours on end. Also note that service is extremely slow at 'peak' hours, which seems to be most times of the day. However, the staff is really friendly and the beautiful mural was done by local artists.
WiFi: Free | Power: Very limited | Space: Limited | Air-conditioned: Yes, and some outdoor seating| Location: South Coast
Surfer's Cafe
Cute, locally run cafe right on the water, with a very beachy, surfer vibe. Great for breakfast/lunch date or meeting new people. Make sure to ask for a spot on the water (There's also a cool area in the back) The only downsides: no plug sockets - power up before you leave home or the office.

The restaurant at South Gap Hotel
The South Gap Hotel has a Miami beach vibe going on. The restaurant overlooks the pool deck and the bright blue sea - don't blame me if you can't focus on your work! It's a very comfortable, breezy and relatively quiet spot to work for the day, with a number of seating options (tables and little lounge areas) and beautiful local art on the walls.

Cafe 195

You can park yourself with your laptop anywhere in the lush garden or on the easy, breezy patio. It's conveniently located in Bagatelle Great house, right in between Warrens and the West Coast. Though I haven’t tried the food as yet, the coffee was delicious. I shared a cute video of the space on Instagram which you can check out here.

Open Kitchen
Open Kitchen, a natural go-to for ladies who lunch and business executives, is also an excellent refuge for freelancers. Good coffee, free WiFi, an excellent lunch menu and a great atmosphere make this a great alternative to the office. The only downsides: Not many visible power sockets - power up before you leave home or the office. You should also be considerate of the fact that this is a restaurant and gets busy during the lunch rush, so try not to stay too long and take up space (unless you're buying lunch of course).
WiFi: Free | Power: No visible sockets | Space: Plenty of room first thing but it gets busy with lunch crowd | Air-conditioned: Yes | Location: Millhouse
Regus Welches
Regus Caribbean is part of the international brand and offers fully serviced office spaces, virtual offices, co-working spaces, and meeting room. There is a large picnic style table upstairs where you can retreat to if you're looking for more privacy.

Local & Co.
Working in this restored historic building is quite the treat; the lounge area is bustling but not overly busy (My dark, moody photo does not do this place justice!) I recommend going in the morning for coffee and delicious pastries before the lunch crowd arrives. Another option is to go after lunch and finish your work day with a swim and a sundowner. I've shared my love for this beautiful farm to table restaurant in quite some detail in this blog post.
Wifi: Free | Power sockets: A few plugs available | Space: Indoors | Air conditioned: Yes | Location: Speightstown
